Where’s the Innovation? (oh yeah, it’s right here)

I’m not sure what it says about the state of residential construction when the most interesting exhibit at the home show is the Photo Bus. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool concept. A mobile photo booth inside a fully restored vintage VW bus. It really is genius, we’re big fans…you should check them out here. But aside from providing us with really cute saw and hammer props, it doesn’t do much for the building industry.

We visited the KC Home Show today hoping to see some interesting ideas, innovative products or inspired builders. Instead, there were countless booths offering gutter covers, landscape blocks, and at least half a dozen people who would adjust your spine (not sure what that’s about). Everywhere we turn, we find a need for what we’re offering. It’s no wonder when residential construction hasn’t changed significantly in decades, and very few modern advancements are being applied on a large scale.

So if you’re planning to build, just skip the home show and come see us. But if you must go, don’t miss the Photo Bus!

Not much innovation or design here in KC metro. Stuck in the Midwest mindset. Pacific Northwest and intermountain west areas more open to new design and house construction materials and techniques. California companies that offer sip designs for small homes overcharge with units running $200+/sq. foot for base models. Nothing more than a ripoff!

Yeah, California has a pretty skewed RE market, crazy property values set an unreasonable tone.

Good news is that is changing and feedback shows there is pent up demand. Hopefully we can make a dent. Would love to meet and talk shop, mind if I shoot you some event invites?
